St. David CES

Welcome to St. David CES! This is your home for everything related to walking/wheeling to school. Click the school on the map for more information!

For help using the map, check out the ‘map instructions’ and ‘map legend’ located below the map.

St. David has an active school community – nearly 70% of students who don’t get the bus, use active transportation to get to school daily. This means that in the morning and afternoon, you’ll see many families using the sidewalks, crosswalks, and paths in our neighbourhood to get to their destinations.

Here's what's happening at St. David CES

Highlight

During the 2022-2023, the St. David CES Health Action Team identified physical activity and mental health as their indicators for a healthy school. To help achieve this, they focused on active school travel as one of their main initiatives. These were their activities:

  • Poster making and announcements to spread awareness
  • Walking Wednesdays to incentivize the walk to school
  • Wayfinding signs to support safe school travel by designating Student Streets on the landscape. The signs will be installed during the 2023-2024 school year.

Past activities

In November and December of 2021, members of the St. David school community participated in a survey to identify how students are getting to school, the routes they take, and the barriers they face along the way. Below are the results of the survey which include:

  • Footprint map: This map shows all of the routes that were submitted in the survey
  • Infographic: The infographic is a summary of responses from the community. Percentages shown indicate proportion of respondents.

Next steps will be based on action planning with the school community. Stay tuned for more details!
