When the map first loads on your School Page, you should be able to see your school.
Click on your school. When you do this, two shapes (dark purple and light purple) and the main routes to school will appear in orange.
The dark purple shape represents ‘less than a 10 minute walk or 5 minute bike’, which means if you start inside the purple walk zone, you will arrive at school in 10 minutes or less if you are walking, and 5 minutes or less if you are biking. These times are based on a distance of 800m.
The light purple shape represents a ‘less than 20 minute walk or 10 minute bike’. These times are based on a distance of 1.6km.
After clicking your school, type in your address in the top-left box to get an estimated walking time!
If your school is working on a project, it may appear on the map when your school is clicked. This project will be described beside the map on the School Page.
If you zoom in a bit further (click the ‘+’ button in the bottom right corner), you’ll start seeing other elements of the map such as crossing guards and pedestrian crosswalks. If you zoom even further, you’ll see sidewalks and stoplights.
Now, if you’d like, type in an address in the search bar. This could be your home address or anywhere else you would like. You will see a marker placed on the map.
How long would it take to walk from the location to school? What is the best route to take to cross at stop lights, pedestrian crossings, and with crossing guards? Are there sidewalks along the route (maybe they are only on one side of the street)?
Click the ‘x’ beside your school name to clear the map.
